📋 About the Role
Tiger Data, formerly Timescale, is a fast‑growing data‑infrastructure company that has built the world’s fastest PostgreSQL‑based platform for transactional, analytical, and agentic workloads. Backed by $180 million from top‑tier investors, the firm powers more than 3 million active databases for over 2 000 customers across 25 + countries. Its mission is to simplify real‑time data pipelines, enable intelligent applications, and let developers focus on building value rather than managing infrastructure. The company operates a remote‑first model, emphasizing direct communication, accountability, and collaborative excellence. The Database Support Engineer – Weekend role sits in the Technical Services team and is the frontline for customers who run critical workloads on Tiger Data’s cloud platform. Working a 4‑day, 10‑hour weekend shift (Friday‑Monday, 6 AM‑5 PM IST), you will troubleshoot performance bottlenecks, guide customers through TimescaleDB features such as hypertables, compression, and continuous aggregates, and bridge gaps between database internals, cloud infrastructure, and modern platform engineering. You will also partner with internal engineering, solutions, and delivery teams to accelerate issue resolution and feed real‑world insights back into product improvements. **Key Responsibilities** 1. Provide end‑to‑end technical support for customers facing PostgreSQL/TimescaleDB or platform‑related issues. 2. Translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable guidance and documentation. 3. Analyse query execution plans, logs, and metrics to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks. 4. Implement and fine‑tune TimescaleDB features such as hypertables, compression strategies, and continuous aggregates. 5. Write and debug PL/pgSQL procedures for data manipulation and automation. 6. Investigate full‑stack incidents, from API failures in the browser (using DevTools) to Kubernetes pod crashes and cloud‑service misconfigurations. 7. Collaborate with customers to understand their use‑cases, recommend best‑practice architectures, and act as a trusted advisor. 8. Partner with Engineering to reproduce, root‑cause, and drive fixes for complex bugs. 9. Contribute to internal knowledge bases, run‑books, and AI‑assisted troubleshooting tools. 10. Stay current with PostgreSQL, TimescaleDB, AWS/Azure, and emerging data‑engine technologies, sharing insights with the team. **Tech Stack**: PostgreSQL, TimescaleDB, Tiger Cloud, AWS & Azure, Kubernetes, Docker, Go, Python, CLI tools, PL/pgSQL, browser DevTools, AI‑assisted monitoring. **Growth Path**: Starting as a Weekend Support Engineer, high performers can transition to a full‑time Technical Services Engineer, then to Senior Engineer, Solutions Architect, or Product Specialist roles. The exposure to multi‑disciplinary problems accelerates learning and opens pathways into cloud engineering, database product management, or AI‑driven analytics teams. **Why Join Tiger Data?**: You will work with cutting‑edge time‑series technology used by industry leaders, enjoy a fully remote culture with flexible PTO and Fridays off in August, receive stock options, a monthly Wi‑Fi stipend, and continuous learning resources. The weekend shift offers a unique work‑life balance for those who prefer non‑traditional hours while still being part of a high‑impact, fast‑growing engineering organization.
