The role of a Virtualization Engineer at CtrlS is centered on the day‑to‑day operation of the company’s XenServer environment. As an L1 engineer, you will be the first line of defense for monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintaining the health of hosts, resource pools, virtual machines, storage, and networking components. You will work closely with senior L2/L3 engineers, following well‑defined SOPs and MOPs to ensure incidents are resolved within the agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs). This position offers a solid foundation in enterprise virtualization and a clear path to specialize in advanced technologies such as Nutanix hyper‑convergence and Citrix VDI. Key Responsibilities: 1. Monitor XenServer clusters and proactively identify performance or availability issues. 2. Perform first‑level troubleshooting of CPU, memory, storage, network, and VM‑related incidents. 3. Execute routine operational tasks such as VM provisioning, host patching, and resource pool adjustments. 4. Maintain accurate ticket documentation, ensuring proper shift handovers and knowledge transfer. 5. Escalate complex or recurring problems to L2/L3 teams with detailed logs and analysis. 6. Assist in capacity planning and performance tuning of the virtualization infrastructure. 7. Participate in on‑call rotation to provide 24x7 support for critical services. 8. Contribute to the creation and improvement of SOPs, MOPs, and knowledge‑base articles. 9. Collaborate with networking and storage teams to resolve cross‑domain issues. 10. Stay updated with the latest XenServer releases, patches, and best practices. Tech Stack: XenServer/XenCenter, xe CLI, Linux (RHEL/CentOS), basic networking (TCP/IP, VLANs), storage protocols (iSCSI, NFS), scripting (Bash/Python), exposure to Nutanix and Citrix VDI is a plus.
