📋 About the Role
Mastercard is a global technology company that powers economies and empowers people in more than 200 countries and territories. With a heritage of innovation in digital payments, Mastercard delivers secure, simple, and smart transaction experiences for consumers, merchants, issuers, and governments. The company’s culture blends cutting‑edge technology, data‑driven insights, and a strong commitment to inclusion, sustainability, and community impact. As a leader in the payments ecosystem, Mastercard invests heavily in cloud, AI, and blockchain initiatives, offering employees the chance to work on products that shape the future of commerce.
The role of Software Engineer II – Software Engineer in Test (SET) sits at the heart of Mastercard’s Quality Engineering function. This team partners closely with product and development squads to embed quality into every line of code, ensuring that new features are released with confidence and reliability. The SET engineer will design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks, contribute to continuous integration pipelines, and collaborate with developers to improve testability, performance, and security of applications across core payments, emerging services, and value‑added solutions.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Design and implement robust automation scripts for UI, API, and integration testing using Java, Selenium WebDriver, TestNG/Spock, and RESTAssured.
2. Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines in Jenkins or Bamboo, integrating code‑coverage tools like SonarQube.
3. Develop and execute performance, reliability, and security test suites for cloud‑native micro‑services.
4. Partner with developers to conduct code reviews, identify testability gaps, and suggest design improvements.
5. Create and manage test data using SQL (Oracle) and data‑virtualization tools.
6. Contribute to the evolution of testing standards, best practices, and quality metrics across the organization.
7. Participate in Agile ceremonies, provide test estimates, and ensure test deliverables align with sprint goals.
8. Mentor junior QA engineers and promote a culture of continuous learning and automation.
9. Troubleshoot flaky tests, maintain test infrastructure on Linux environments, and write shell scripts for routine tasks.
10. Stay updated with emerging testing technologies, cloud platforms, and payment‑industry protocols (e.g., ISO 8583).
The tech stack revolves around Java, Selenium, RESTful services, JSON/XML, JUnit, Git/Bitbucket, Maven, and cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure. Exposure to in‑memory data grids like Pivotal Gemfire and payment simulation tools (Paragon, FinSim) is advantageous. Mastercard offers a clear growth path: engineers can progress to Senior SET Engineer, Lead Quality Engineer, or transition into broader software development or architecture roles. The company’s commitment to learning, mentorship programs, and internal mobility makes it an attractive destination for fresh talent eager to make an impact on a global scale.
Why join Mastercard? You will work on mission‑critical payment systems that affect billions of transactions daily, collaborate with world‑class engineers, and benefit from a supportive, inclusive environment that values innovation, work‑life balance, and personal development.
