📋 About the Role
Standard Chartered is a globally recognised banking institution with a legacy of over 170 years. Headquartered in London, the bank operates in more than 60 markets, offering a wide range of financial services that include retail banking, corporate and institutional banking, and wealth management. The organization prides itself on its commitment to sustainable finance, diversity and inclusion, and leveraging technology to drive innovation across its operations. In India, Standard Chartered has built a strong presence, supporting businesses and consumers alike while fostering a culture that encourages continuous learning and ethical conduct. The Apprentice Technology GBS India 2026 programme is a 12‑month, hybrid apprenticeship designed for engineering graduates who are eager to jump‑start their careers in technology. As an apprentice, you will be embedded within the Technology & Operations (T&O) team, working on real‑world banking solutions that impact millions of customers. The role offers exposure to end‑to‑end software development cycles, from requirement gathering and design to coding, testing, and deployment, all under the mentorship of seasoned technologists. Key responsibilities include: 1. Contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of J2EE‑based web applications using Spring Boot, JPA, JSP, and related technologies. 2. Implement and test RESTful and SOAP web services, ensuring compliance with security standards. 3. Participate in code reviews, debugging sessions, and performance tuning activities. 4. Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to translate business requirements into technical specifications. 5. Write SQL queries and optimise database interactions with Oracle and PostgreSQL. 6. Support Linux/UNIX environments for deployment and monitoring of applications. 7. Follow Agile methodologies, attend sprint ceremonies, and maintain documentation throughout the SDLC. 8. Engage in continuous learning through talent assignments, workshops, and thought‑leadership events. 9. Assist in automation of testing and CI/CD pipelines where applicable. 10. Provide post‑deployment support and resolve production issues promptly. The tech stack spans Java (J2EE), Spring Boot, Hibernate, JMS, JDBC, XML/JSON, Linux, Oracle, PostgreSQL, and Agile tools. Successful apprentices can look forward to a clear growth path, potentially transitioning into full‑time analyst or associate roles within the bank’s technology division, with opportunities to specialise in cloud, data engineering, or cybersecurity. Joining Standard Chartered means becoming part of a purpose‑driven organisation that values diversity, encourages innovation, and offers a supportive environment for personal and professional development.
