As a Software Development Engineer – Backend, you will join the core engineering team that builds the high‑throughput, low‑latency services powering Juspay’s payment ecosystem. The role focuses on designing and implementing scalable business logic, integrating with diverse payment rails (UPI, card, wallets), and contributing to the company’s functional‑programming‑first culture. You will work closely with product, data science and infrastructure teams to deliver mission‑critical features that handle billions of transactions per year. Key Responsibilities: 1. Design, develop and maintain high‑performance backend services using functional programming paradigms. 2. Implement APIs for payment orchestration, authentication, tokenization and settlement. 3. Collaborate with the SDK team to expose backend capabilities through reusable SDKs and UI components. 4. Optimize existing services for latency, throughput and reliability, targeting 99.999% uptime. 5. Participate in code reviews, enforce coding standards and mentor junior engineers. 6. Work with data‑science teams to expose analytics and AI‑driven insights via backend endpoints. 7. Contribute to the multi‑DC infrastructure DSL and ensure seamless deployment across edge locations. 8. Troubleshoot production incidents, perform root‑cause analysis and drive self‑healing mechanisms. 9. Write comprehensive unit, integration and contract tests to guarantee service correctness. 10. Stay updated with emerging payment standards and incorporate them into the platform. Tech Stack: Scala/F# (functional languages), Java, Kotlin, Spring Boot, gRPC/REST, Kafka, Cassandra, PostgreSQL, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, Linux, Git, CI/CD pipelines. Growth Path: Starting as an SDE‑Backend, you can progress to Senior Engineer, Lead Engineer, and eventually Architect or Platform Manager, with opportunities to lead cross‑functional product squads and influence the roadmap of Juspay’s payment infrastructure.
