📋 About the Role
Apple is a global technology leader that designs, manufactures, and markets consumer electronics, software, and services. With a heritage of innovation that began in a garage, Apple now operates in more than 150 countries, delivering products such as the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and a suite of services including the App Store, Apple Music, Apple TV+, and iCloud. The company’s culture emphasizes privacy, environmental responsibility, and a relentless focus on user experience, making it an aspirational workplace for engineers who want to shape products used by millions daily. The Apple Services Engineering (ASE) team powers the backbone of these services, handling massive data pipelines, real‑time analytics, and content delivery at scale. Within ASE, the ADP Processing SRE team ensures that the data platform remains reliable, performant, and secure. As a Service Reliability Engineer (SRE) for the Apple Data Platform, you will be part of a small, cross‑functional group that builds and operates the infrastructure that processes exabytes of data for Apple Music, TV+, the App Store, and other flagship services. In this role you will design, automate, and maintain highly available systems on bare‑metal, AWS, and Kubernetes. You will work closely with software engineers to understand performance, security, and scalability requirements, and you will translate those into robust, self‑healing architectures. Your contributions will directly affect the latency and reliability of services experienced by millions of Apple users worldwide. Key Responsibilities: 1. Support Java‑based applications and Spark/Flink jobs across bare‑metal, AWS, and Kubernetes clusters. 2. Evaluate application requirements and recommend optimal cloud or on‑premise topologies. 3. Build automation frameworks for self‑healing and auto‑scaling of services. 4. Develop monitoring and alerting tools using Prometheus, Grafana, and custom dashboards. 5. Troubleshoot complex performance, networking, and system issues in production. 6. Participate in incident response, root‑cause analysis, and post‑mortem documentation. 7. Collaborate with product and engineering teams to deliver new features with reliability baked in. 8. Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and improve deployment workflows. 9. Write clear documentation and runbooks for operational procedures. 10. Mentor junior engineers and share best practices across the SRE community. Tech Stack: Java, Python, Go, Apache Spark, Apache Flink, Kubernetes, Docker, AWS (EC2, S3, RDS), Linux, Prometheus, Grafana, Git, Jenkins/ArgoCD. Growth Path: Starting as an Associate SRE, you can progress to Senior SRE, SRE Lead, and eventually Engineering Manager or Platform Architect, with opportunities to move across Apple’s diverse service groups. Why Join Apple? Apple offers a world‑class platform to work on problems at massive scale, a culture that prizes creativity and inclusion, and a compensation package that includes competitive salaries, stock options, and comprehensive benefits. As an SRE at Apple you will be empowered to own critical systems, influence product reliability, and grow alongside some of the brightest minds in technology.
