The Credit & Fraud Risk (CFR) teams are at the heart of protecting the company’s brand, customers and financial integrity. They harness data, analytics, technology and risk‑management best practices to identify, monitor and mitigate credit and fraud risks throughout the customer lifecycle. The apprenticeship program offers a 12‑month paid experience that blends learning, mentorship and real‑world impact.
The Apprentice role is designed for recent graduates who are passionate about data, analytics and risk. You will work across three focus areas – Data Stewardship, Strategy & Analytics and Product – gaining exposure to the full product lifecycle, from discovery and testing to implementation and performance monitoring. You will partner with cross‑functional teams, including product managers, data engineers and risk analysts, to deliver data‑driven insights that influence business decisions.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Supporting analytical and reporting activities to uncover trends and business insights.
2. Building and maintaining dashboards using SQL, Python, Excel, Power BI or Tableau.
3. Participating in data governance and quality initiatives.
4. Assisting in the design and execution of risk models and fraud detection algorithms.
5. Contributing to product enhancements and innovation projects.
6. Collaborating with stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
7. Monitoring product performance and recommending optimizations.
8. Documenting processes and best practices.
9. Engaging in continuous learning and skill development.
10. Presenting findings to senior leaders.
The tech stack you’ll encounter includes SQL, Python, Excel, Power BI/Tableau, ETL tools, RPA and basic machine‑learning frameworks. The apprenticeship offers a clear growth path: from apprentice to analyst, then to senior analyst or product specialist, with opportunities to transition into full‑time roles within American Express.
Why join? You’ll be part of a company that values integrity, innovation and customer trust. The apprenticeship provides mentorship from senior leaders, a structured learning curriculum, networking events and a supportive hybrid work environment. You’ll leave with industry‑relevant skills, a strong professional network and a portfolio of real‑world projects.
