📋 About the Role
The Indian Army, one of the world’s largest and most respected defence forces, has a long tradition of embracing technology to enhance national security. Beyond its core combat role, the Army runs a range of research, development and innovation initiatives that leverage cutting‑edge digital solutions. Through the Indian Army Internship Program (IAIP), the organization offers bright engineering students a chance to work on real‑world military applications, gaining exposure to high‑impact projects under the mentorship of seasoned officers and civilian experts. As a Software Development Intern / Software Engineer Intern, you will be part of the Office of the Senior Communications Coordinator (OSCC) team responsible for maintaining the Government e‑Marketplace (GeM) NIC portal. The role blends low‑code development with traditional database programming, giving you a holistic view of enterprise‑grade web applications used by defence ministries. You will collaborate closely with senior engineers, translate business requirements into functional features, and ensure the portal remains secure, performant, and user‑friendly. **Key Responsibilities** 1. Design, develop, and enhance the OSCC web page using Oracle APEX. 2. Write, optimise, and maintain PL/SQL procedures, packages, and functions. 3. Implement interactive UI components with JavaScript (pop‑ups, dynamic drop‑downs, real‑time updates). 4. Create and style front‑end elements using HTML and CSS. 5. Extend and support low‑code applications on the Oracle APEX platform. 6. Perform debugging, bug‑fixing, and performance tuning. 7. Conduct unit testing, prepare documentation, and assist in deployment. 8. Liaise with the OSCC team to gather requirements and deliver solutions on schedule. 9. Explore and integrate RESTful services via ORDS where applicable. 10. Maintain version control using Git or SVN. **Tech Stack**: Oracle APEX, PL/SQL, Oracle REST Data Services (ORDS), JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, Git/SVN, basic knowledge of UI/UX themes. **Growth Path**: Successful interns may receive a performance‑based recommendation for a full‑time role within the Army’s IT wing or be considered for other defence‑related technology projects. The exposure to mission‑critical systems, security protocols, and large‑scale deployments equips interns with a competitive edge for careers in government, defence contractors, or private‑sector enterprises. **Why Join**: Working with the Indian Army offers unparalleled discipline, a sense of purpose, and the chance to contribute to national security. Interns gain hands‑on experience with enterprise‑grade tools, mentorship from senior officers, and a stipend that recognises their contribution. The program also fosters soft skills such as teamwork, punctuality, and adherence to strict confidentiality standards, making it an excellent launchpad for a technology career.
