The role of Software Engineer – Apps is centred on developing and enhancing Headout’s mobile application. Working closely with product managers, designers and data teams, you will translate product requirements into clean, performant code and ship features that directly improve the user journey. You will be part of a cross‑functional squad that iterates quickly, experiments with new ideas and continuously optimises app speed and reliability. The position offers exposure to the full software development lifecycle – from system design and architecture decisions to UI polish and post‑release monitoring.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Design, develop and ship end‑to‑end mobile features using React Native and TypeScript.
2. Collaborate with UI/UX designers to implement responsive, pixel‑perfect interfaces.
3. Integrate native iOS/Android modules where platform‑specific functionality is required.
4. Write unit and integration tests to ensure code quality and maintainability.
5. Optimise app performance, memory usage and startup time.
6. Implement offline‑first storage solutions and handle data synchronization.
7. Participate in code reviews, provide constructive feedback and mentor junior teammates.
8. Contribute to architectural discussions and help define best practices for mobile development.
9. Work with backend engineers to define and consume RESTful APIs.
10. Monitor production metrics, troubleshoot issues and release timely fixes.
Tech stack: React Native, TypeScript, JavaScript, Redux/Jotai (or similar state management), native iOS (Swift/Objective‑C) and Android (Kotlin/Java) modules, REST APIs, Git, CI/CD pipelines.
Growth path: Starting as a junior mobile engineer, you can progress to Senior Engineer, Lead Engineer and eventually Mobile Architecture roles, with opportunities to lead product squads or move into broader engineering management.
