The role of Software Engineer – C/C++ & Networking is positioned within the PTX Series Routers Packet Forwarding team. This team designs and builds the core software that moves billions of packets across high‑performance routers and switches used by the world’s largest cloud providers, telecom operators and mobile networks. As a hybrid position, the candidate will work from the HPE Bengaluru office two days a week and remotely the rest of the time, collaborating closely with product managers, test engineers, and customers to deliver high‑quality networking features. Key responsibilities include: 1. Architecting and developing packet‑forwarding features such as IPv4/IPv6, MPLS, SRv6, multicast, GRE, LAG and tunnelling. 2. Translating product requirements from line managers into robust, scalable code. 3. Working with test teams to validate functionality and performance. 4. Engaging directly with customers for technical support and feedback. 5. Participating in industry forums and standards bodies. 6. Maintaining and enhancing existing forwarding features. 7. Conducting code reviews and ensuring adherence to best practices. 8. Contributing to documentation and knowledge‑sharing within the team. The technical stack revolves around C, C++, Linux, Python for scripting, and networking protocols. Familiarity with DevOps tools, distributed computing concepts and micro‑services is advantageous.
