With a heritage of more than a century, IBM combines deep research expertise with cutting‑edge technologies such as hybrid cloud, quantum computing, blockchain and generative AI. The company’s commitment to responsible innovation and inclusive culture makes it a preferred destination for technologists who want to work on products that impact millions of users worldwide. In India, IBM Software operates across major tech hubs, fostering a collaborative environment where engineers can experiment, learn, and grow alongside industry veterans.
The role of Software Engineer – Confluent sits within the Hybrid Observability & Management charter, focusing on the Unified Stream Manager (USM) and Confluent Control Center (C3). As a fresher or early‑career engineer, you will be assigned well‑scoped features that contribute to the reliability, observability, and security of Confluent Platform deployments across on‑premise, cloud and hybrid environments. You will receive mentorship from senior engineers, participate in design reviews, and gradually own a sub‑component of the product suite.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Deliver well‑defined tasks and features on schedule while adhering to coding standards.
2. Contribute to USM capabilities such as Agent and Cloud Console, or C3 workflows like cluster health and topic visibility.
3. Write design one‑pagers for assigned sub‑tasks and incorporate stakeholder feedback.
4. Develop clean, maintainable, and well‑tested code in Java or Go.
5. Create unit and integration tests, fix bugs, and actively participate in code reviews.
6. Assist in troubleshooting production incidents by analyzing logs and metrics.
7. Participate in an on‑call rotation with guidance from senior team members.
8. Document technical decisions and maintain knowledge‑base articles.
9. Continuously learn Confluent’s engineering practices, release processes and DevProd tooling.
10. Grow into the go‑to person for a specific USM or C3 sub‑component.
Tech Stack: Java, Go, Apache Kafka, Kubernetes, Docker, AWS/GCP/Azure, Prometheus/Grafana for observability, CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins/Argo), Git, REST/ gRPC APIs.
Growth Path: Starting as a Software Engineer, you can progress to Senior Engineer, Lead Engineer, and eventually Architect or Product Manager, with opportunities to move across IBM’s extensive portfolio of cloud and AI products. IBM offers structured learning programs, certifications, and internal mobility to help you shape your career.
Why Join IBM Software? You will work on industry‑defining streaming platforms, gain exposure to large‑scale distributed systems, and be part of a culture that values curiosity, collaboration and continuous learning. IBM’s global reach, strong mentorship framework, and commitment to diversity and inclusion provide a supportive environment for fresh talent to thrive and make a tangible impact.
