Within L&T, the D&DC (Digital & Defense Computing) Land Systems division focuses on building mission‑critical software for land‑based platforms used by the armed forces and strategic customers. The division blends cutting‑edge embedded systems, real‑time operating systems and robust communication protocols to deliver reliable solutions that operate in the most demanding environments. As a fresher‑friendly unit, D&DC Land Systems invests heavily in talent development, offering structured training, mentorship from senior engineers, and exposure to high‑impact projects that shape national defense capabilities. The role of Software Engineer in the D&DC Land Systems team is designed for recent graduates who have a strong foundation in C/C++ programming and a keen interest in embedded and real‑time software. You will be part of a collaborative group that designs, develops, and validates software components for distributed architecture systems used in land platforms such as armored vehicles, unmanned ground systems and tactical communication nodes. Your day‑to‑day responsibilities will include writing clean, maintainable code, implementing multi‑threaded and multi‑process solutions, and integrating various communication interfaces ranging from serial links to Ethernet, CAN and ModBus. You will also contribute to building diagnostic tools, automating test frameworks, and performing root‑cause analysis for field issues. Key Responsibilities: 1. Develop and maintain C/C++ code for real‑time operating systems (Linux, VxWorks, QNX). 2. Design multi‑threaded and inter‑process communication mechanisms. 3. Implement and debug communication stacks for Serial, Ethernet, 1553, CAN, NMEA and ModBus. 4. Create automated build, test and diagnostic tools to accelerate development cycles. 5. Participate in code reviews, static analysis and adherence to coding standards. 6. Collaborate with hardware engineers to validate software on target platforms. 7. Perform scalability analysis and root‑cause investigations for field‑reported issues. 8. Document design specifications, test plans and user manuals. 9. Contribute to continuous improvement of development processes using Jira and CI/CD pipelines. 10. Support customers during integration and provide post‑deployment assistance. Tech Stack: C, C++, Linux, VxWorks, QNX, Qt, POSIX threads, IPC mechanisms, Jira, Git, Ethernet, VLAN, IP protocols, CAN, ModBus, Serial communication. Growth Path: Starting as a Software Engineer, you can progress to Senior Engineer, Lead Engineer, and eventually Architecture or Project Management roles, with opportunities to work on classified defense projects and cross‑functional teams. Why Join: You will gain hands‑on experience with mission‑critical embedded systems, receive mentorship from industry veterans, and enjoy a stable career in a reputable organization that values innovation, security clearance, and continuous learning.
