📋 About the Role
Lilly is a global healthcare leader with a heritage of more than 150 years in discovering, developing and delivering life‑changing medicines. Headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, the company employs over 39,000 people worldwide and operates in more than 120 countries. Lilly’s mission is to unite caring with discovery, putting people first while driving scientific innovation. The organization is known for its strong emphasis on research, community outreach, and a culture that encourages collaboration across functions and geographies. In India, Lilly has a robust presence in research, manufacturing, and commercial operations, offering a vibrant environment for young talent to grow.
The Business Insights & Analytics (BI&A) team at Lilly’s Bengaluru office plays a strategic role in turning raw commercial data into actionable business intelligence. Partnering closely with the US Business Insights & Analytics group, the team supports brand managers, market researchers and other internal stakeholders by delivering high‑quality analytical outputs that drive decision‑making across the product lifecycle. As an intern, you will be immersed in real‑world commercial analytics projects, working with modern data platforms such as Databricks Unity Catalog, Power BI, and generative AI tools like Claude and Copilot. This hands‑on experience is designed to build a solid foundation in data engineering, analytics, and storytelling within the pharmaceutical industry.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Gaining familiarity with commercial data sources and building governed datasets using Gold Layer and semantic layer assets in Databricks Unity Catalog.
2. Delivering analytical outputs across the commercial value chain – patient journey, segmentation, targeting, channel spend, and persistency – and translating findings into clear business insights.
3. Designing, building, and maintaining performance dashboards and reports (brand performance, market monitoring, launch trackers, KAM/Institutional analytics) using Power BI.
4. Applying generative AI tools (Claude, Copilot) to accelerate analysis, draft insight summaries, and explore agentic approaches for automating routine reporting.
5. Writing SQL queries and Python scripts in Databricks notebooks to extract and manipulate metric views from the Gold Layer.
6. Leveraging AI‑driven workflows to simplify data summarisation and speed up delivery of insights to stakeholders.
7. Participating in stakeholder meetings, presenting analytical outputs, and helping translate findings into actionable business decisions.
8. Collaborating with cross‑functional teams, including brand, market research, and IT, to ensure data quality and relevance.
9. Documenting analytical processes and maintaining data governance standards.
10. Continuously learning new tools, technologies and industry best practices to enhance analytical capabilities.
The tech stack you will work with includes SQL, Python, Databricks (Unity Catalog, notebooks), Power BI, and generative AI platforms such as Claude and Microsoft Copilot. This exposure equips you with a blend of data engineering, analytics, and AI‑augmented reporting skills that are highly sought after in the market.
Growth path: Successful interns often receive full‑time offers as Business Insights Analysts, progressing to senior analyst, analytics manager, or specialized roles in data science and commercial strategy. The exposure to global best practices and cross‑functional collaboration accelerates career development.
Why join Lilly? You will be part of a purpose‑driven organization that values scientific excellence and societal impact. The internship offers a unique blend of cutting‑edge technology, real business problems, and mentorship from seasoned analytics professionals. Moreover, Lilly’s inclusive culture, focus on employee well‑being, and commitment to continuous learning make it an ideal launchpad for a career in data analytics within the healthcare sector.
