📋 About the Role
Standard Chartered Bank, a heritage international bank with over 170 years of history, operates in more than 60 markets worldwide. The bank focuses on trade, finance, and investment solutions, and prides itself on a purpose‑driven culture that champions diversity, inclusion, and sustainable commerce. Its Indian operations, especially in Bangalore, serve as a hub for global finance, technology, and risk management, offering fresh graduates exposure to cross‑border transactions and cutting‑edge financial products. The organization’s values – integrity, partnership, and innovation – are embedded in everyday work, making it an attractive destination for ambitious analysts who want to make an impact early in their careers. The Analyst, Product Control role sits within the Product Control team that underpins the bank’s front‑office businesses such as Corporate & Institutional Banking (CIB) and Wholesale Retail Banking (WRB). The analyst will be responsible for ensuring that daily profit and loss (P&L) and balance‑sheet items are accurately captured, reconciled, and reported in line with IFRS 9 and internal control standards. Working closely with IT, risk, finance, and operations teams, the analyst will help design data‑integrity reports, support month‑end close activities, and contribute to the continuous improvement of control frameworks. Key responsibilities include: 1. Monitoring daily P&L and balance‑sheet controls across multiple product lines. 2. Liaising with IT, country finance, risk, and operations to resolve data and process issues promptly. 3. Designing, testing, and implementing exception reports for trade‑position (TP) data integrity. 4. Performing month‑end balance‑sheet substantiation for product‑control owned balances. 5. Assisting in the implementation of robust controls to ensure IFRS 9 compliance. 6. Classifying and measuring financial instruments as per IFRS 9 guidelines. 7. Preparing and posting month‑end journal entries in the Product‑Specific General Ledger (PSGL). 8. Conducting daily and month‑end reconciliations between TP systems and the General Ledger. 9. Ensuring all control activities are completed, reviewed, and documented within agreed timelines. 10. Upholding the bank’s code of conduct, ethics, and regulatory standards in every task. The tech stack for this role primarily involves advanced Excel, VBA/macros, and exposure to financial systems such as Bloomberg, Reuters, and internal risk‑management platforms. Knowledge of SQL or Python is a plus for data analysis and automation. Growth path for analysts typically moves to senior analyst, product control manager, and eventually to controller or finance leadership roles, with ample opportunities for cross‑functional rotations across treasury, risk, and corporate finance. Why join Standard Chartered? The bank offers a competitive compensation package aligned with the Fair Pay Charter, comprehensive health and retirement benefits, flexible working arrangements, and a strong learning culture backed by digital platforms like Unmind and internal upskilling programs. Fresh graduates gain mentorship from seasoned professionals, exposure to global finance standards, and the chance to contribute to a bank that drives commerce and prosperity worldwide.
