The Business Tax Services (BTS) – Quantitative Services (QS) team is a specialised unit that assists multinational corporations in claiming research and development (R&D) tax credits across multiple jurisdictions. As a QS Intern, you will be embedded within the Global Research and Development (R&D) Tax Credit practice, working closely with senior tax professionals and engagement teams in Canada and other English‑speaking markets. This role offers a unique blend of tax knowledge, data analytics, and client‑facing experience, making it an ideal springboard for a career at the intersection of finance, technology and regulatory advisory.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Analysing client expenditure data from payroll, general ledger, invoices and engagement letters.
2. Preparing detailed computations and documentation to substantiate Qualified Research Expenses (QREs).
3. Importing and validating client data in EY’s proprietary delivery platform.
4. Assisting in the preparation of client‑ready R&D credit calculations.
5. Conducting preliminary research on federal and state tax regulations related to R&D incentives.
6. Supporting senior team members in drafting technical memos and client presentations.
7. Coordinating with cross‑functional teams to ensure data integrity and timely delivery.
8. Maintaining meticulous records to satisfy audit and compliance requirements.
9. Contributing ideas to improve the QS workflow and automation tools.
10. Participating in internal training sessions on tax policy and data analytics.
Tech stack: Advanced MS Excel (pivot tables, macros), MS Access, PowerPoint, EY’s internal data‑management platform, basic SQL knowledge is a plus.
Growth path: Successful interns are often offered full‑time Analyst positions, with clear progression to Senior Analyst, Manager, and eventually Tax Advisory Partner roles. EY invests heavily in up‑skilling through EYU (EY University) and global mobility programs.
